Brandigala1Hiking is not just climbing a mountain but exploring. Hike to Brandygala was my second experience of a hike. In order to succeed a hike companionship and togetherness can consider as two main pillars other than strength or fitness of the body. Except climbing exploring the ecosystem and animal behavior, photography, adventuring are major goals of a hike.

Our main target was to climb and explore Brandygala mountain range. Since it was established as the main goal photographing, drawing, and adventuring can consider as sub targets. During a hike the expectations of people are different from each other. They’ll get the taste of a hike by different ways. It is a great opportunity to identify various ways to enjoy the hike.

According to my point of view friendship is the most valuable item that we can gain in our university life. There should not have any difference within faculties, departments and seniors, juniors. Hiking club has given the opportunity to raise the hand of friendship to others and to tie the golden thread of friendship which will never break. Throughout the hike we were same as the university companions.

From the beginning onwards it was a fresh experience and a challenge. It has become more challengeable because I was in the middle of our semester end examinations. But due to the fever of hiking and adventuring I participated to add another wonderful memory for my memory album. Most of the faces were new for me due to the participation of all 4 faculities. It was a challenge to deal with new friends. From the start of the hike I have started for hunting new friends and they have become friendly through the hike.

According to my experience from the hike the most difficult step was climbing steps, other than climbing the mountain. It was felt very tired and strength loosing. But the tiredness vanished away when the environment is full of jokes and adventurous stories. It was not just only climbing by ourselves but we should help others who have difficulties in climbing without hesitating. Keeping positive attitude as “I can, I will” became a motivation sentence to climb without considering tiredness and obstacles.

viewphotoalbumTravelling on head of the troop is the best way to collect more experiences. Because new challenges were identified by the head and the responsibility of overcoming those challenges were done by the head. I was travelling with the head. Our group members have met a whip snake. I’m afraid and I hate snakes. But one of our members took the snake into our hand. I’ve never seen such a thing live. The snake didn’t try to harm her and stayed as a photogenic and let others to take photographs. I also got the chance to go close by and I was able to touch the snake. It was my first time of touching a snake. I have learnt that animals won’t harm people without a reason, but people harm for their freedom without any reason. I’ll let animals to harm people. If people let the animals live peacefully animals won’t harm humans in return.

During the hike we had to follow certain techniques to overcome from certain obstacles. In one place there was an obstacle which we had to follow a unique technique to overcome. The path was laid between two rocks which the path is very narrow. Experienced members of our team taught us the technique which we should follow. We had to creep from the rocks in a limited space. They have guided all the junior hikers to overcome form that. We had to follow even the foot step used by the member in front. We were able to learn many techniques which we can use in a hike for certain places and to select the most optimum path to travel.

Finally we have reached to the peak of the Brandygala. It was very tiresome since we had to climb through steep slopes in the rock. We should able to manage the strength of the mind rather than the strength of the body. If we let it go even once we will never able to reach the peak. The feeling that I got when we reached the peak cannot express by words. Life and soul felt relaxed and all the stresses which got stuck in the mind have flown away. The scenery and natural beauty made us feel pride to be a Sri Lankan. In order to get the real feeling team spirit was a necessity. 62 members were participated for the hike. All members were helping each other without differentiating as a girl or a boy. Boys had to carry extra water bottles, first aid and other common necessities while girls were carrying their own belongings. But boys were never complained about it and even helped others in difficult situations. That feeling is called the real team spirit and responsibility.

We got chance to learn about the mountain ranges which we can see from the peak. We had our lunch by even without washing our hands because, we had to save water. Some kept babbling about the germs when eating. After the lunch some of the friends have gone crazy with selfies, some were discussing about the next hike, some were chattering and some were observing the changes of the environment.

It was started raining and also we have started to get down. The surrounding and the whole mountain range was covered with mist within 2-3 minutes. We had to struggle to get down due to the disturbance of rain. The rock surface was slippery and water kept flowing through the path we travel. We had to place our lives at stake. All the members had to work together as a team. Senior hikers helped us without hesitating to get down. It was unable to carry umbrellas for rain. We have got the most wired and unpleasant experience from leeches. They were attacked us severely and we had to donate some blood for them.

We have got wet like hens and had to keep travelling constantly in the rain. Since we have worn slippers, it has become a burden. Sometimes we had to take off the slippers and travel. We got to know about the accessories that we should take and wear to face this kind of a situation. Finally we have got down and we had to change.

We have got an unforgettable experience and got the motivation to travel further. It was a great pleasure to finish the hike successfully without any harm. Togetherness has become the power and friendship has become the strength. So let’s be together and travel more and more. It was an experience which a person should have at least once within their life time. We are looking forward for the next hiking experience.
